Itsy Made To Order... "Where are you Chelsea..?" (Doll Cake)

Having Monday Blues?

Lets spice up a little bit with our 'Itsy Made To Order'. Hmm, where to start?
OK, hmm...hmm..Lets start with....hmmm...nope..nothing came to our mind. Wow, we are blank right now. Screw you monday blues!

OK, lets try this again. Come on brain, wake up! We need you to function like, NOW! Here we go...

Not along ago, we received an order from our dear sister in law. She wanted a doll cake for her daughter's 2nd birthday (we made her 1st birthday cake too). She gave us two pictures as reference and the pictures were:

(We're are not sure on whom we should give credit for these pictures. We could not find any link to this picture for your reference and to credit them.)
The request was, to have a doll cake (princess like) but the additional special request was not to use a 'Barbie' doll and change it to a small girl doll instead. Small matter right? We just purchase a small girl doll similar to the picture given to us, instead of a Barbie. 'Toys 'R' Us' should have something that we want. It's like the 'heaven' of toys.

As usual, we will start to source out all the materials needed. Our Mr. Driver (itsyhubby: just to inform how multi-talented he is and he can be whatever we want him to be and that day, he is the driver!) took us to Toys 'R' Us in Sunway Pyramid. We would like to have a girl doll with a 'real hair' look a like and not the hard kind of hair. But, there was none out of thousands of toys in 'Toys 'R' Us'. Can you believe that?

Actually, there was one girl doll with a 'real hair' look a like and you know what? It is one of Barbie's collection. She is not Barbie but she is the sister of Barbie named Chelsea and she is a girl not a lady. Itsyhubby was like, "A doll is a doll, no matter it is Chelsea, Sophia or whatever they named it. Just pick one that you can put on the cake. Simple!". Well the fact is, it is not that simple because Elsa is Elsa, Elsa can't be Barbie and Ariel is Ariel, she definitely can't be Belle . See, you can be like a 'Master of Dolls and Princesses' just by making cakes. We were happy to actually find a girl doll. However, the so famous 'Chelsea' girl was not sold individually. She was sold in a set together with Barbie and would have cost us over RM100 per set. We do not need Barbie and the other accessories. We only need you 'Chelsea'!

Then, we need to think of a back up plan. the first plan was to find the doll at other places. We went to Aeon Shopping Mall, GM Plaza and others. Chelsea was not there. We was like 'Chelsea, where the h**l are you!". We did find other kind of cheaper girl doll but trust us, they ain't as pretty as Chelsea. The hair was not as pretty as Chelsea and the make up was not as pretty as Chelsea too. If you are really fussy and would really want something that is worth paying for (custom cakes ain't cheap you know), cheap girl doll CAN'T be in our list. You will definitely kill us saying something like "Hey you, you crazy baker! I paid a lot for this cake and is this the quality of doll that you think worth the money I paid?", hahahaha...sorry, we exaggerate sometimes.

Another back up plan was to seek assistant from our 'itsyfamily'. We planned to borrow from another niece of ours, the doll. We are pretty sure that this particular niece would have some Chelsea dolls in her collection. So, a call was made to the mother of that niece (Arissa) which is our sister. The sister was OK about the idea, saying that her daughter, Arissa do have ChelseaS with an 'S' which means she has more than one Chelsea you know. But, the sister did mentioned that she need to ask permission from Arissa before lending it over to us plus we did get the sister to ask her daughter just to give it to us instead of lending. Happy ending or not? Give it guess!

Moments later, we received a video from the sister (Kak Yati). Do you want to know what the video was about? It is actually a video of Arissa saying 'NO' to us. She do not want to let go of her Chelsea even though all her ChelseaS has been staying in a box for maybe months or years.
By the way, we get our Kak Yati to get us two Chelsea because, the sister in law (Tisha) who made the order wanted not one cake but two. One is to celebrate with the family and the other for her daughter (Anggun) to celebrate with her friends at school.
Now, we are good to proceed with actually making the cake. Before presenting to you our own version of the doll cake for this particular task, please bear in mind that we are still a beginner and also doing this on a part-time basis. Because you know why, every single time that we actually showed itsyhubby or itsyfamily a picture of our reference in creating our own creation, they always laugh and say that our version is nothing like the one we are referring to at all. They said that, ours are not as neat, smooth, flowy or as great as it should be. But we don't care! Because we still have our lovely itsymommy that will always see our creation as the most beautiful creation she has ever seen. We love you so much itsymommy.

Ouh no, now we are back to square one. Then, luckily our dear Kak Yati volunteered to help us to look for Chelsea. Alhamdulillah, she managed to help us purchase not one but two Chelsea which was sold individually at other branch of Toys 'R' Us. Yeah! Mission accomplished. That is why we love our 'itsyfamily'.

this was supposed to look something like the photo earlier

As for the other cake, Tisha wouldn't mind on the design wise. So, we made a more simple doll cake.

this is for Anggun to celebrate with her friends

Do you know that 'Anggun' stands for 'beautiful'? Here is our beautiful 'Anggun' with her birthday cake!
Happy Birthday Anggun! lots of love, Aunty Favvy
OK. Now, Lets get back to work! Till we meet again. Bye!

xoxo,
itsycupakebygugulicious
